Hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers is a gel-like injectable substance made from cross-linked hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the skin. They are expertly placed into the soft tissue in the skin, to restore or add volume, enhance facial contours, balance profiles, and harmonise facial features. In addition to shaping and volumising, HA fillers help hydrate the skin and smooth fine lines for a refreshed, youthful appearance.

Not all dermal fillers are the same, and there are many brands on the market. They vary in viscosity (thickness) and contain different amounts of HA. It is important the correct filler type is used depending on the area being treated and depth of injection. Product selection is key to achieving natural, harmonious, long-lasting results, whilst ensuring safety and minimising risks.

At Adorn, we only use premium CE-marked products, including Teoxane (Teosyal®) and Stylage®, chosen for their safety, quality, and proven efficacy.

The Benefits Of Dermal Fillers

FAQs (HA Dermal Filler)

  • Dermal filler is commonly used to enhance or restore volume, and create symmetry and facial balance to areas such as lips, cheeks, chin and jaw. It can be used to fill hollowing under the eyes, which can cause dark circles or a 'sunken' appearance. A very popular treatment at Adorn is nose reshaping (often referred to as "non-surgical rhinoplasty").

Please get in touch if you are unsure which area you would like treated, or book a free consultation via our booking page.

  • Results can usually be seen immediately. However, you may experience some swelling or bruising for a couple of weeks after treatment. Final results will be seen once this subsides.

  • The longevity of dermal filler depends on many factors. This includes which area is being treated, the brand and type of filler being used, and individual metabolism and lifestyle. At Adorn we typically use Teosyal (Teoxane), which contains a high amount of cross-linked hyaluronic acid, and is a lovely, smooth filler that moves well with the skin tissues.

  • Some patients report mild discomfort when having dermal filler treatments, and some say it doesn't hurt at all. This will depend on the pain tolerance of each individual. We apply numbing cream prior to treatment and provide stress balls for you to squeeze!

  • Most people find that the injections cause only mild local pain and tenderness. There may be swelling in and around the treated area, which is generally present for up to 2 weeks. Occasionally swelling can last longer, depending on the area treated and how quickly your body heals. Bruising is also possible.

All other potential side effects or complications will be discussed with you prior to treatment.

  • Sarah takes a holistic approach with all of her work, and will always aim to achieve natural subtle results. Each treatment is tailored to your individual goals and desired results, however we believe education is key and we will not carry out a treatment which we do not think will benefit you!

  • Dermal filler treatment advise is as follows:

    Pre-treatment:

    - Do not drink any alcohol for at least 24 hours prior to your treatment.

    - Avoid blood thinning medications, including ibuprofen and aspirin. Please consult with your GP before pausing any prescription medications.

    Post treatment:

    - Do not drink alcohol or consume any blood thinning medications (as above), for at least 48 hours after your treatment.

    - Avoid rubbing or touching the treated areas during the healing stage. You can lightly pat the area to dry after washing, or to remove makeup.

    - Do not apply makeup to the treated area for 48 hours after treatment.

    - Avoid vigorous exercise, extreme heat, saunas or sunbeds for 48 hours after your treatment.

    - You can use arnica cream to help with bruising.

    - Paracetamol can be taken to help with any mild pain post procedure.

  • You may experience some redness, tenderness, swelling and potentially bruising after your treatment. Generally, normal activities can be resumed after 48 hours, but it is important to follow aftercare instructions provided by your practitioner.

  • To book in with our aesthetic practitioner Sarah, please navigate to the 'Booking' page. A consultation isn't always necessary before dermal filler treatments. However, if you are unsure whether you are suitable for the treatment, or would like to discuss options, then please book a consultation first.
